Unimaginable Cruelty, Unbreakable Spirit: Dorra’s Story of Survival

I thought I was having a bad day until I was home and headed to my neighborhood tribe to serve food. That’s when I discovered the unimaginable level of human cruelty, a level defying anything I could have ever expected…

This tribe used to live in a private area. For some reason, the landlord and janitor decided to keep some members in a protected space and leave the other unfortunate group outside — a trashy piece of land on the main road— where two Mommas gave birth.

The first one (Julia, a poodle) had four puppies, and the second (her daughter Stella) had seven. When I realized they were starving, I bottle-fed the latter siblings for 10 days. It was an exquisitely undescribable sentiment.

At the entrance, I noticed the field looked different. My gut started aching but I kept walking until I heard the concierge talking to a guy who referred to three terrorized tiny pups.

Eight puppies out of the eleven were buried ALIVE by the workers!

Stella is a super anxious doggie. She never let me touch her despite her wagging tail…

I shared the tragedy with Virginie Dhiab to think together about the most effective way to grant some justice to the murdered puppies. She requested that I bring Stella and her 3 survivors.

Her unconditionally loving heart couldn’t hear about the horrific event and not rescue the traumatized family… My friend merely asked for a few days to prepare a new space.

Meanwhile, the weakest of the three kids we called Dorra was hit either by a car or a human leg. Her femur was displaced following the shock. I took her to the clinic where she got some painkillers and spent three days. The main vet planned to operate on her the same day he would spay her momma Stella.

Eventually, he informed me he was skeptical given her health condition, that her life was at risk. We decided to cancel the surgery and give her a chance to self-heal.

I drove for eight hours and spent 3 more ones at the shelter since the staff found viral contamination when I was about to reach my destination and we had to take drastic measures to protect the vulnerable babies!

Dorra stayed at the shelter with her mom and siblings who are much stronger than her for 2 days after which Virginie decided to take her home because her brother and sister were hurting her when playing.

Ultimately, Dorra’s injury healed perfectly. The most fragile pup of the litter who saw 4 of her siblings being buried alive, the pup who later lost her last two siblings to a deadly virus blossomed into a beautiful and healthy dog despite all odds!

We should have called her Miracle! Dorra is yet another lesson in resiliency for us humans! She deserves a break and to find her forever-loving home. She is on the adoption list! For more details, contact my friend Virginie on WhatsApp at +33 6 64 85 59 03.

Unfortunately, our very few trustworthy shelters in Tunisia, like the one run by Virginie Dhiab, can’t create miracles and continue their tireless efforts and magnificent commitment to animal welfare alone.

So, I turn to you, dear compassionate community, for help. Your support, no matter how small, can make an enormous difference.

Even a $10 donation can change a life and brighten the future for these innocent beings who suffer a miserable existence. Your may support Association Un Coeur sur Pattes جمعية قلب على قوائم here:

Aidez notre refuge: Ensemble, nous sommes leur seule chance.

If you can’t contribute financially, please consider sharing far and wide. Your sharing can help us reach more caring souls who can lend their support. Together, we can make a world of difference for these animals.

THANK YOU for being a part of this incredible journey with us!
